The Greetwell Plate: August

August 30, 2025

And in a flash August is over! With summer holidays and scorching temperatures, it’s been a quieter month but now the season is shifting. As summer winds down and autumn begins, it’s time for school to start and leaves to fall. Before we dive into autumn, let’s take a look at what Greetwell has been serving up this month.

We were delighted to be apart of this month’s Care Home Magazine through our sponsorship of Care Home of the Month! Congratulations to Holbeach Meadows, part of the Tanglewood Care Homes! The home has some state of the art facilities like a vintage style kitchen and music for their dementia unit as well as a cinema, a sensory room and a in-house rabbits!

After a long and dedicated process, we are happy to say we’re B Corp Certified! This means we met the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. We celebrated with a trip to the International Bomber Command Centre for the best jacket potatoes Lincolnshire has to offer! Managing Director, Steve Gibson says:

“This certification is more than a title but a statement of how we want to do business. Being a B Corp™ is just another step in our on-going commitment to people and the planet. We want to raise awareness that business can be a force for good and inspire others to follow suit.”

Keeping inline with the green theme, we also renewed our carbon neutral certification with the neutral carbon zone silver award. This certification just amplifies our commitment and we are pleased to have renewed!

Some good news stories!

💻 A recent project led by a Warwick University professor looks at how the use of AI could transform screening for breast cancer. Although it is early days the results are promising as the project is freeing up radiologists’ time by doing some of the precise analysis needed, and potentially improving detection rates.

📈  With school results being release , there has been a shift in results as the grade gender gap has shrunk! Almost one fifth of boys (19.4%) achieved at least a grade 7 (A), compared with nearly a quarter (24.5%) of girls – the closest the gap has been since 2000, when the earliest data is available.

🌺  The loss of wildflower habitats has caused a decline in honeybees as they are struggling to feed. But scientists are creating a super food to combat the issue. “Using precision fermentation, we are now able to provide bees with a tailor-made feed that is nutritionally complete at the molecular level,” said lead researcher Prof Geraldine Wright. However, it does not solve the problem of biodiversity loss or widespread pesticide use, both leading drivers of declining bee numbers.

Stay tuned for more updates next month!
