The Greetwell Plate: May
My my May… It has been a busy couple of weeks this month so take a look at what we’ve been up to:
We started the month sponsoring a local sustainability event all about film, fashion, farming and food! We were proud to sponsor the food from the day which was deliciously vegan! The day blended together different group and pushed beyond just talk, with creative workshops throughout the day!
A few days later, we attended the National Association Of Care Catering (NACC) North Region spring seminar and had an informative and great day. This included some insightful presentations and crucial information from the BDA Care Home Digest team. It was a lovely touch to have a VE Day themed party food table.
Later in the month, we officially became Carbon Literate! 🌍 🌳 The training we took with ClimateEQ and City of Lincoln Councilhelped deepen our understanding of the climate crisis and how we can make a real difference through our actions. As a team, we are constantly working towards a more sustainable future and our journey to becoming Net Zero is underway!
And to round off the month, we finished with a trip to Doddington Hall & Gardens to for the Step Into Wilder Doddington by Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce. The tour took us beyond public footpaths and we saw Lincolnshire Red cattle and curly coated pigs. It was wonderful to meet other businesses while appreciating the nature and work being done. We couldn’t be in food procurement without finishing off the morning with some lunch from the Grain Store Restaurant which was delicious! 😋🌱

🥛 A family-run dairy business (Müller UK & Ireland) has partnered with the UK’s largest food redistribution charity, FareShare, to support low-income people across the UK by transforming surplus food into vital meals. From hospices to homelessness shelters, Müller’s consistent donations of quality dairy products, like milk and yogurts, are helping ensure that no good food goes to waste.
🦒 Angolan giraffes (Giraffa giraffa angolensis) have been brought back to an Angolan national park in Namibia this week to restore the wildlife in the country’s national parks. The giraffes were thought to have been extinct since the 1990s. This is hoped to be the first of many relocations to return animals back to their homelands.
